Northeast Georgia Schutzhund Club

A GSDCA-WDA Club

Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  What is Schutzhund?

A: Schutzhund was developed for the German Shepherd Dog in Germany as a as a breed suitability test. It allowed breeders of the German Shepherd Dog a  way to objectively measure the working ability of a dog . The difficulty of the Schutzhund trail should weed out any animal not physically or temperamentally suited to working. Even today, no German Shepherd Dog can be bred in Germany without a Schutzhund title.

Schutzhund (literally "protection dog") is a sport composed of three parts - tracking, obedience and protection work. The dog and handler must pass all three phases at the same trial in order to earn a Schutzhund title. There are three levels to Schutzhund, plus several other titles.

Q: How do I become a member of The Northeast Georgia Schutzhund Club?

A: To obtain membership, we ask that you come with your dog four times, preferably within a six week period.  With each visit, you will pay $10.00 to the club, which is nonrefundable.  At the end of this trial period, the club will vote on your membership.  This period is to ensure that we are the right club for you. Once your membership is approved, you will need to pay an initiation fee and annual dues.
